V-Ray for SketchUp

Vray for SketchUp 2.0 is now available.  If you are a SketchUp user, this plugin is an absolute MUST.  I am still an advocate of using 3ds Max to do your modelling, but if you insist on using SketchUp, Vray will take your models to the next level.  In my opinion, it is the best rendering package available, especially for arch viz.  Here are the details on the release, plus some nice tutorials going over new features.  Probably the most important feature is the addition of Vray proxies, which makes SketchUp's ability to handle large, complex scenes much better.  Check it out.

I also posted the tutorial videos on the freecg facebook page, here.

Vray for Sketchup Tutorial - Lighting

Vray is the best tool to add the necessary power to SketchUP. This tutorial shows why. It uses global illumination technology, including area lights, physical sun and sky, etc. (all seen in this video) to create images that far surpass what SketchUP can do on its own. Watch this tutorial for a basic overview of how the lighting works, and how it can enhance your scenes.

Zdepth in Vray for Sketchup

This tutorial outlines how to use the Zdepth render element in Vray for Sketchup. This is a powerful render element because it can be used to produce depth of field effects in Photoshop or other post programs. This can save tons of valuable render time since rendering depth of field within the program can take FOREVER. Definitely a good watch. Check it out.

Vray Sun and Sky Tutorial + linking to a daylight system

This is a common thing that people want to do with Vray but it is not always obvious how it is done. Plus, the Vray Sun can be a little bit confusing if you are new to it, so this is a good tutorial for examining how it works. watch carefully!

2.10.09

This is a decent tutorial if you can handle the horrible music that is played rather then narration. Displacement as many of you probably already know can be a really powerful tool for making complex geometry using only maps. Like the stone in this video, you can get the effect of modelled stone with just a map applied to a plane, like a bump map, except displacement actually creates the geometry of the stone based on your map...so it looks more convincing.

Anyway...it can be kind of tricky so check out the basics of how to do it here in this tutorial.
