In Depth Charachter Animation Tutorial : Making of Sideshow Bob

Here is the link. This covers a very difficult subject very well. It is not software specific although I think the artist uses Maya. It goes over polygon modeling and rigging very well. It is 8 pages worth of tutorial. Lots of helpful stuff.

Displacement Maps: Some amazing effects.

This image is a displacement map. You have got to see the images it was used to create in Bryce3d. Try it out. This guy on Flickr has made some really amazing stuff with it, and he offers a brief tutorial for how it's done. Try it out in your own 3d programs. The images are here.

Evermotion.org

My favorite feature of this website is the free tutorials. There are some really good ones in all different types of catergories. There is something for every 3d program, plus compositing and Photoshop. Check them all out. There are even video tutorials. Of course, there are always the galleries and the forums to check out.
